In accordance with its strategic plan, the group is strengthening its presence and expansion on an European and international scale, by: establishing itself within the European debate, promoting cooperation between long term European and international investors, continuing its opening strategy upon the Mediterranean region.
An enlarged international dimension
The context of financial and economic crisis has brought to the fore Caisse des Dépôts' major contribution on the international scene, in order to overcome the difficulties and respond to the need for a stable economy.
The group operates in more than 90 countries through its subsidiaries' activities. It considers its role as a long term international investor, at the heart of its company objectives through the NRE law of 2008, as a way of opening up to other institutions.
This is why it is strengthening its bilateral partnerships with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti in Italy, KfW in Germany, the European Investment Bank and also the Caisse de dépôt et de gestion du Maroc.
In the same way, it is conducting a multilateral dialogue between long term European and international investors: In spring 2008, the group created CDC International, a 100% subsidiary.
Its objective: To carry forth Caisse des Dépôts' international actions destined for long term investors.
CDC international has two missions: :
The creation of a long term investors' forum, with its first stage on 22nd June in Paris, the opening day of the first Paris Conference on long term value and economic stability, an international event acting as a point of reference for long term investors with;
The setting up of a range of financial products adapted to these economic protagonists. The Inframed and Marguerite funds are the first concrete examples.
To participate strongly in the European debate
Given that economic stability needs, the environment and renewable energy, the modernisation of universities, research, housing, transport, etc, are issues for all the EU Member States, the sharing of experience with the group's European partners is essential.
A creator of innovative solutions in these areas, the group wishes to further affirm itself in EU debates and to develop alliance strategies, in particular through the long term investors' club .
In order to strengthen is presence with regard to the European institutions, it has opened a permanent representation in Brussels.
A natural extension of the group with regard to EU institutions, this permanent representation is implementing a strategy to ensure its presence within the European institutions, promote cooperation commitments with its partners and constitute a resource centre at the disposal of the group's professional sectors.
Carrying forward its expansion strategy within the Mediterranean region
The Mediterranean is a priority for Caisse des Dépôts' international expansion strategy.
The Mediterranean region has all potential to become a large centre of prosperity. It has very significant investment needs, as much with regard to the energy sector as to the water supply, agrarian, transportation, education and health sectors. So many areas where investment is insufficient and which constitute great opportunities.
The Caisse des Dépôts has operated in the region for several years. In 2008 it renewed its partnership with Caisse de Dépôts et de Gestion du Maroc. Its numerous interventions in the region consist, in particular, of investing regional financial investment tools and investing in these.
