Keiichiro Kobayashi, professor and researcher, in particular in the RIETI (Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry), presented his study " Financial crisis management: let us lessons from Japan’s failure ". He so took a different look to answer the question of the conference: " Japanese Banking crisis of the 90s and current banking crisis: what teachings? ".

First, he set out he similarity differences between the 1990s economic crisis in Japan and the current crisis. The solutions brought by the Japanese government at that time, in particular fiscal and monetary, were insufficient. A "cleaning" of the banks balance sheet by companies asked to rehabilitate assets and doubtful borrowers was thus undertaken. Japan indeed has to restore trust in its financial system and relaunch the household consumption to go out finally of the crisis. The country cannot rely any more on its exports today, when all the countries wish to do so .

Sébastien Lechevalier presented the France-Japan Foundation of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales(EHESS-French School for advanced studies in the social sciences), the objective of which is to facilitate, encourage and promote exchanges between researchers of both countries. A university foundation, it benefits from the support of the Ministry for Higher Education and Research. The CDC Institute for Research appears among companies and partner French institutions beside Sanofi Aventis Japan, Michelin Japan and the Bank of France.
