Fondation CNP Assurances launches two new calls for projects, the one dedicated to the municipalities which make a commitment to promote the use of the cardiac defibrillators, the other one in the improvement of the care for pain.

Founded in 1993 under the auspices of Fondation de France, Fondation CNP Assurances, now a corporate foundation, was set up to promote, support and initiate actions and projects in the public interest in the field of health.

As part of its vocation of serving key public health issues, the Foundation has since 2009 been providing support for projects to improve emergency medical treatment, with particular emphasis on cardiac arrest and first aid services.

Fondation CNP Assurances is inviting local authorities in France to submit projects to provide public access to automated external defibrillators, and to provide information and awareness training for the general public on how the devices should be used and what first aid to perform in the event of someone suffering a cardiac arrest.

In the space of just three years, the Foundation has financed the installation of 2,215 defibrillators and public awareness campaigns on their use in 1,372 communes and local authorities, via subsidies totalling €1.4mn.

In keeping with its role as initiator and incubator, Fondation CNP Assurances deliberately targets projects in areas as yet relatively underdeveloped but which, once pioneered and duplicated elsewhere, will be of lasting public interest over the long term.

Since 1999, Fondation CNP Assurances has also supported projects to speed up progress in France on improving pain management for all ages, whether in palliative care, general practice or hospital care.

The Foundation has issued a new call for projects in this field, offering concrete, innovative and long lasting initiatives to encourage:

- the promotion of best practices in the management of physical pain, and in patient-centred treatment strategies and the evaluation of such strategies,

- the assessment and appropriate treatment of physical pain in the mental health sector, for vulnerable or communication-disabled populations.

These may be initiatives aimed at:

- better understanding, assessment and treatment of physical pain,

- a rapid, effective therapeutic response to relieving pain,

- systematic application of analgesic protocols based on current scientific knowledge,

- changes in practices to improve pain management in the mental health field.
