Renewable energy  - 25 January 2012

The Marguerite Fund announced on 23 January the purchase of a 36 MW part of the 115 MW of the Toul-Rosières project of photovoltaic solar power plant operated by EDF Energies Nouvelles.

The Toul-Rosières project is the largest photovoltaic (PV) solar power station project in Europe. It will be built on a 522-hectare government-owned former airbase near the city of Nancy. One and a half million First Solar panels will be installed on the site, which is due to start generating electricity in the third quarter of 2012. Project development, construction, operation and maintenance will be handled by EDF Energies Nouvelles.

This transaction marks the second investment by the Marguerite Fund, an equity fund set up in 2010 to invest in greenfield and expansion projects in the energy, renewables and transport sectors in the EU-27 countries. The Fund obtained financing for the construction of its 36 MW tranche of the project under a term loan facility arranged by BNP Paribas and Crédit Agricole CIB.

For Augustin de Romanet, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Caisse des Dépôts, Chairman of the Long-Term Investors Club and founder member of the Marguerite Fund, “the purpose of the Fund is to reinforce Europe’s long-term competitiveness through investment in priority projects in the fields of energy, renewables in particular, and infrastructure. This investment is a splendid example of the contribution long-term investors can make to European growth, coupled with, as in this instance, direct benefits for the French economy”.
