Economy  - 19 November 2009

On 19 November 2009, Edmond Alphandéry, Euro50Group Chairman, and Augustin de Romanet, Caisse des Dépôts Chairman and CEO, organized in Paris a round table about: the euro 10 years later, a European currency for economic growth.

This event, under the auspices of Christine Lagarde, Minister for Economy, gathered important European personalities who strongly contributed to the birth of the single currency, in particular Joaquin Almunia, Jacques Delors, Jacques de Larosière, Pedro Solbes, Jean Lemierre or Jean-Claude Trichet.

In front of more than 250 participants, the speakers expatiated on the genesis of the euro, its evolution for 10 years, its positive role against the current economic and financial crisis, as well as the future prospects, in particular at the international level.

Caisse des Dépôts wished to co-organize this event because of its implication in the creation of the European single currency from the implementation of the Economic and Monetary Union, and the role played by Philippe Lagayette, then Chairman and CEO.

A long-term investor, and a manager of important financial amounts, Caisse des Dépôts always contributed to the development of economic and financial innovation and participated in the modernization of the operation of the French and European capital markets.
