Promoting cooperation between European and international long term investors
The financial and economic crisis is revealing the fragility of short term orientated approaches and the mistrust that is setting in as regards risk. It is thus bringing to the fore the beneficial role played by long term investors able of making a sustainable commitment to strategic sectors: infrastructure, energy, housing, etc.
In this context, the Caisse des Dépôts group has taken the initiative for building up a long term investors' club.
Conducted by CDC International, the long term investors’ club has two projects
- Being a forum for the exchange of good practice and the expression of a common identity;
- Putting together service offers dedicated to this category of financial players allowing them to invest capital to serve economic development. The Marguerite fund and Inframed are the first concrete examples.
Reflection on the role of long term investment on a worldwide scale has henceforth been initiated within this context. This underlines the need for a clarification of the status of long term investor, in particular in terms of accounting and prudential rules. This is why Caisse des Dépôts and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti’s common contribution has been submitted to the group of experts presided over by Jacques de Larosière on financial supervision in Europe.
On 22nd June, the long term investors' club is organising the first edition of the Paris Conference for Long Term Value & Economic Stability, an international event and point of reference for long term investors organised on the fringe of the OECD ministers’ annual summit.
