Automobilité, a newly created start-up from La Rochelle, and Transdev plan to respectively provide Residential facilities for autonomous seniors (French acronym: EHPA) with open-access electric vehicles and vehicle sharing, as well as minibuses with available drivers, and coaches. Two service residences in La Rochelle, Villa Royale and Villa Océane, are partners in the experiments with these new complementary services that prevent situations of isolation, interruption of social ties or dependency.

The question of the adaptation of transportation for the elderly is one of the major challenges in order to look after their mobility needs on a day-to-day basis, while ensuring autonomy and maintaining social ties. This question is more timely than ever, since by 2030, France will have 20 million people over the age of 60 years, versus 15 million today.

This experimental project was selected by Caisse des Dépôts in July 2014, as part of its incubation mechanism for innovative projects. A pragmatic initiative created in 2013, Lab cdc will strive to quickly test (9 months), using limited resources, an innovative service with a high social value, with future customers and users. Based on the field results obtained, the completed experiments could lead to the offer being generalized.
