Africa's first high-speed line: Egis participated in this exceptional project

On 15 November Africa's first high-speed line, linking Tangier to Kenitra over 200 km, was officially inaugurated. On this exceptional site, Egis was responsible for both the track, catenary and construction site project management for the whole Tangiers-Kenitra line, and the civil engineering project management for the northern lot.

La 1ère ligne à grande vitesse d’Afrique reliant Tanger à Kenitra
This sizeable project to develop the high-speed railway line between Tangier and Casablanca is divided into two parts:
  • a new high-speed line linking Tangier to Kenitra;
  • the redevelopment of the crossings and stops of high-speed trains in different conurbations (Tangier, Rabat and Casablanca).

This is the first stage in the implementation of a blueprint of Morocco’s high-speed lines, which aims to progressively build a network of approximately 1,500 kilometres comprised of the Atlantic Tangier-Casablanca-Agadir line and the Maghreb Casablanca-Rabat-Fez-Oujda line.

This grand opening marks the end of a great adventure for Egis’ teams and the culmination of 10 years of work alongside Moroccan Office national des chemins de fer (ONCF, National railway office), the project owner for this operation.
