Inauguration of Minatec Competence Centre Building in Grenoble

Minatec Competence Centre Building was inaugurated on 7 October in Grenoble. On a total investment of €17mn, Caisse des Dépôts invested €1.83mn, representing 49.9% of the stockholders' equity of SCI BCC Presqu’île, along with Foncière Malherbe Claudel, a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole. The balance of the investment (€13.4mn) was financed by a bank loan 50-50% by Bpifrance and Crédit Agricole.

Property & housing

The Competence Centre Building (BCC) will host 550 researchers from the Electronics and IT Laboratory (Leti) and the Micro-electronics and Technology Laboratory (LTM). An office building, it will profit from its proximity with the cleanrooms of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). It is based in the Grenoble eco-system for innovation and the Minatec campus.

A global competitiveness cluster, Minatec brings together 2,400 researchers, 1,200 students and 600 industrialists and specialists in technology transfer over 20 hectares. With 300 patents and 1,600 publications per year, Minatec is a leading stakeholder in the general area of micro and nano-technologies.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Jean Therme, Director of CEA Grenoble and CEA Director of Technological Research, Jean Pierre Gaillard, President of Crédit Agricole Sud Rhône-Alpes and Gil Vauquelin, Caisse des Dépôts Rhône Alpes Regional Director, and the Prefect of Isère.

In addition to the BCC, Caisse des Dépôts is a partner of several projects contributing to the Grenoble eco-system for innovation:

  • a shareholder of the semi-public company Minatec Entreprise, alongside the local authorities and CEA for creating high-tech buildings, on the peninsula;
  • an investor in the Corys company building, also on the peninsula;
  • an investor in the transformation of an industrial premises into a company hotel, designed to welcome fledgling companies, in the Bouchayer-Viallet urban development area;
  • an investor in the head office of Atos Origin, les Reflets du Vercors, also in the Bouchayer-Viallet urban development area.
