Rouen Normandy Autonomous Lab: an autonomous mobility service shared and on demand

Rouen Normandy Metropole, Transdev Group, Renault Group and Matmut Group, partners of the Rouen Normandy Autonomous Lab project, are experimenting, with the support of the Normandy Region and Banque des Territoires, the 1st shared and autonomous on-demand mobility service on open roads in Europe. This experiment will be open to the public in the last quarter of 2018 with 4 Renault ZOE 100% electrical autonomous vehicles and an autonomous i-Cristal shuttle co-developed by Transdev and Lohr.

Users will be able to call a vehicle in real time from the dedicated application available on smartphones. The vehicles will be available over 3 lines adding up to 10km and including 17 staging points, in correspondence with the lines of the public transport network of the Rouen metropolitan area. Different business areas of the neighbourhood known as Technopôle du Madrillet (Saint-Etienne du Rouvray) will accordingly be reached from the Technopôle tramway station.

For Banque des Territoires, this experiment is a part of its pilot smart cities measure launched in 2016, which aims to support the deployment of innovations in the territories. The teams from Banque des Territoires have supported the emergence of this innovative project from the start, by providing engineering in advance to help with the structuring of the group of partners.

The Transdev group, a Caisse des Dépôts’ subsidiary, is providing the project with its expertise as a transport service operator (operation, fleet management, customer relations) and its autonomous transport system technologies (monitoring, customer application, on-board intelligence and smart infrastructure).
