Transdev and Mobike: self-service bicycles available in small towns soon!

On 27 November Transdev and Mobike, the world leader in bicycle sharing, announced the signing of an exclusive partnership with the aim of marketing a range of self-service bicycles without stations (free floating) to French local authorities, including those with low population density.

This exclusive partnership combines Transdev’s expertise in design and in multimodal mobility management for cities and territories and Mobike’s expertise in technology, user experience and the operation of free-floating services in major cities*.

The aim is to meet the strong demand from local authorities to be able to offer green and economical solutions for mobility: 70% of local authorities consider that the development of soft modes is one of the priorities in terms of energy transition.

Both partners intend to market their offer for Mobike bicycles in over ten local authorities within the first year, including those of moderate size, adjusting the bicycle fleet according to the size of the local authority.

The market for bicycles in urban areas is a very promising one (there are currently over 20 million self-service bicycles without stations in the world), and should double by 2022, however this market had until now been limited to major cities. This partnership may be a real game changer.

* 15 countries, over 200 cities. In Europe, Mobike is already established in Paris, as in Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Albania.
