Caisse des Dépôts pledges for biodiversity

The financial community can play a key role in reversing biodiversity loss by selecting projects and investments with the most positive impacts on nature. This is why Caisse des Dépôts signed the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge on 25 September alongside 25 other financial institutions.

The signatories recognize that the Earth's biosphere is the foundation of human resilience and progress, that it is under increasing stress and that it must be protected.

As part of the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge, supported by 26 financial institutions* from 10 countries and representing €3,000bn of assets managed, the signatories commit to making a positive contribution to biodiversity through their activities and investments. They also call on world leaders to reverse the trend of biodiversity loss during this decade, in view of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which will take place in May 2021. They will assess their own impact on biodiversity, set targets and report on biodiversity issues by 2024 at the latest.

The Commitment was developed by a group of European financial institutions that have been actively working as members of the Finance and Biodiversity Community (F@B Community). They urge financial institutions from all continents that are not yet involved in the Commitment to engage in.

We know that there can be no healthy business, resilient economies and long-term value creation without nature conservation. So let's work together to protect and restore our environment and ensure that we use our resources in a sustainable way. We will make every effort to take our share of responsibility and contribute to the protection and restoration of biodiversity in our financial activities and investments.
